Charlie DanielsSaturday, July 8, 2006, we had the privilege of attending the Craftsman NASCAR Truck race in Sparta, Kentucky. Beyond being a great race, this year one of our favorite recording artists was featured in a pre-race concert.

We've been listening to Charlie Daniels since the 70's and now, even though Charlie is turning 70, he is still a rocker. I know his music is regarded as country and it certainly is country, but, there is still some great rock and roll flavor to it all.

The concert featured many of Charlie's greatest hits over the last 36 years. In typical fashion, before the concert ended, you knew where his allegiances lie. First and foremost Charlie Daniels is a Christian. His performances at Bill Graham services, his Gospel recordings and his unbelievably exciting rendition of "How Great Thou Art" at the race track leave no doubt. Second, Charlie Daniels is a patriot who still supports our troops and knows that they are fighting today for our freedom tomorrow. Further, he knows from first hand visits with the troops in Iraq, that despite what we read in the media, the USA is winning the war in Iraq and our men and women there are responsible for so much good, though we only seem to hear about the bad.

I've posted some photos from the concert in my gallery. You can view the photos in higher resolution at my Fotki site
