Ten days ago, we "celebrated" nine months since the spinal stroke that has changed our lives so much. During these nine months we've been treated so well by so many people. Friends from our work places, church and Sunday School have helped convert our home into an accessable and comfortable environment They've proivded meals and home cleaning during times of high stress and  supported us with prayer and physical assistance without fail and without request. Trudy and I have been humbled by the experience.

As I left the Drake Center last January I was told by the doctors that after 24 months of recovery I could expect to acheive 95% of whatever recovery I would get. We thank God for the early return we saw even in the hospital. Since arriving home we've been blessed to have some fine therapists who have encouraged me and worked me to be sure that we move forward to meet my goal of walking again after 24 months.

This week we took a big step along this path. Even though I was able to stand with a walker at my daughter's wedding, I did not expect to achieve any functional movement with the walker for several more months.

To my surprise we began this process just this week. On Tuesday I was able to stand with the walker and turn 90 degrees so I could get back into my wheelchair from a therapy mat. I did not tell too many folks about it because I always to achieve some repeatable results before blabbing. However, this Friday, I was able to repeat this kind of functional movement moving between my chair to therapy equipment and back again. This is not only exciting to me but the therapists are feeling better since they do not need to lift me any longer!

I also spent time on the parallel bars trying to propel myself forward. While my left leg is still considerably weaker than my right leg, I felt very good about this experience. Some days in therapy are better than others. Next week I may not have as much success but I am thanking God for this big step forward in my recovery.

On Monday evening this week, Trudy shared with me a magazine article from "SpiritLed Woman " called "Heal Us With Your Power"  It said:

Sometimes God heals through annointing with oil, accompanied by the prayer of faith. Sometimes He heals through the laying on of hands. Sometimes He heals through the declaration of his word. Sometimes God heals through medical treatment or through the body's natural recuperative powers. And yes, sometimes God heals through miracles--whether instantaneous or progressive".

I believe that my restoration is a miracle in progress and thank God for each milestone along the way that encourages and strengthens our faith. This experience, regardless of where I am in another 15 months, has opened my eyes, mind and spirit in such a way that I will never be the same again.

Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.' - Jer 33:3 (NIV)

Kris: WOW !
WOW!!! Kelley..... what wonderful videos. Thanks for sharing your progress in a way we can actually watch. We talked this morning in Sunday School about adversity.... and how so much of our life revolves around how we CHOOSE to deal with adversity.... and the growth we can experience when God leads us throuh it. I know that is where you and Trudy have been living now for 9 months... and look what God has been doing in and for you! The best is yet to come!!
Love and prayers,
Kris

Rhonda: thank you
Kelley & Trudy:
Both of you have touched my life. I have watched how you have handled a disability and think of my health issues. You are an inspiration to me, for how you have taken control of the medical crisis, but more importantly your faith throughout all.
All I can add is thank you.
