Video! Aquatic Therapy: Walking in the Pool PDF Print E-mail

Last week I gave an update on my status after 12 months since the spinal stroke but I had no new photos or video. This past Saturday, December 16, we made our weekly trip to the swimming pool at the Drake Center for some self administered aquatic therapy. We see a trainer on Wednesdays at the pool and then on Saturdays try to work on the same things but this time with only Trudy and I.

While I was working on some exercises Trudy shot these videos. I've compiled four sort videos into a one minutes and twenty-eight second compilation. On this day my left knee was weaker than normal and on the whole, the quality of my session was not what I had hoped for. However, not every day can be my best. I have learned to just do the best I can and be happy. Its the long haul that matters. What I did Saturday is better than what I did, by a great margin, on my first visit to the pool in October. Saturday morning is a "Community Swim" time where folks who pay a fee can use the pool and the therapy devices there. It is against the rules for any photo or video to show another user and Trudy was able to achieve that. However, you will hear a young man who also uses the facility on Saturdays. His father helps him to move around the pool but sometimes he gets afraid and a little vocal. We have developed a great appreciation for those folks who have suffered much greater loss that we and especially for the caregivers who sacrifice so much for their loved ones. I'm more and more convinced that there is a sub-culture of handicapped folks that we do not often see. Its a lot easier, safer and less embarrassing to stay home rather that go out. So far at least, Trudy and I are staying as active as we can. God bless her because it is so much more difficult on Trudy than it is for me.

Click on one of the links below to see the video in a pop-up windows. There are two different qualities available. Try the high quality first but if it does not work well try the other.

God Bless and have a Merry Christmas.
