New Milestone With The Walker

Since the new year began my weekly therapy and strengthening sessions consist of one physical therapy session, one trainer led swimming session and one self-guided swimming session. We continue to take physical therapy at Orthopaedic Physical Therapists and Associates working primarily with Jeff Schafer. For aquatic therapy we use The Drake Center's pool . My trainer, Lisa Newport, is a jewel and challenges me in every way just as physical therapy does.

Video! More Standing and New Leg Work
Written by Kelley Underwood
Tuesday, 19 December 2006

StandingMonday, December 18, we went to physical therapy and this time we brought the camera. We've been going to therapy once a week and this was our third week. My insurance for physical therapy visits expired in October. I'll be able to start up with insurance again in January 2007. To help cover the gap a non-profit fund called S.U.P.E.R.M.A.N. has been created to assist folks like myself so we can continue the needed therapy.

This was my third visit on this plan. I've included a couple of videos.

One of these demonstrates an improvement in my standing ability. In an earlier article I showed video of me standing at my daughter's wedding in August. I think if you compare this video to that you will agree that standing is less of a struggle for me now.

Video! Aquatic Therapy: Walking in the Pool
Written by Kelley Underwood
Monday, 18 December 2006

Last week I gave an update on my status after 12 months since the spinal stroke but I had no new photos or video. This past Saturday, December 16, we made our weekly trip to the swimming pool at the Drake Center for some self administered aquatic therapy. We see a trainer on Wednesdays at the pool and then on Saturdays try to work on the same things but this time with only Trudy and I.

1st Annual Report

Its been some time since I've posted any new information regarding my recovery from the spinal stroke and ensuing paralyzation. Since today marks the one year anniversary of the stroke, I thought this might be a good time to put some info out. I had hoped to provide recent photos or videos of physical therapy and aquatic therapy but we forgot the camera Monday for physical therapy and today when we tried to use it at the Drake Center pool we found our batteries to be dead.

Four Tickets to Christmas at WCCN
Written by Kelley Underwood
Thursday, 07 December 2006

You will not want to miss the West Chester Church of the Nazarene's Christmas production of "Four Tickets to Christmas". This very nice musical theater style production tells the heart warming story of family reconciliation in an early 1900s setting. There are many wonderful themes woven into the story and nearly all take place within a barn. The show features a "show within a show" as the story is about rehearsing and preparing a Christmas Concert in a barn because the church is unavailable. The aging and out of tune piano found in the corner adds considerable realism to the sounds one might expect in such a situation. The production is free of charge to the public and can be seen Friday, December 8, and Saturday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m. There will be a Sunday evening performance at 6:00 p.m. All performances will take place in the WCCN Sanctuary. The church is located just off of I-75, north of Cincinnati on Tylersville Rd. The address is: 7951 Tylersville Rd., West Chester, OH 45069. Check this Google Map out for more specific driving instructions. The church can be reached by phone at (513) 777-6300.
