Spike Jones Tunes

Spike Jones Spike Jones has long been a favorite of mine. Its not that I listen frequently to his music but more that the music sticks in my head for years. I was first introduced to Spike Jones and his orchestra by my drum instructor, Mitch Markovich, when I was in high school. We frequently went to his house before or after practice and often he would introduce us to some new music (to us). Spike Jones specialized in musical parody. Much like Weird Al Yankovic of recent fame, Spike Jones would take very popular music, like "Laura" or "You Always Hurt the One You Love" and spin them into something completely different. I've been told that Jones would spend hours audtioning various items, such as toilet bowls or revolvers, to find the one that had the perfect pitch and tone quality desired for a particular musical creation.

Video! A New Step Forward at Therapy

Ten days ago, we "celebrated" nine months since the spinal stroke that has changed our lives so much. During these nine months we've been treated so well by so many people. Friends from our work places, church and Sunday School have helped convert our home into an accessable and comfortable environment They've proivded meals and home cleaning during times of high stress and  supported us with prayer and physical assistance without fail and without request. Trudy and I have been humbled by the experience.

As I left the Drake Center last January I was told by the doctors that after 24 months of recovery I could expect to acheive 95% of whatever recovery I would get. We thank God for the early return we saw even in the hospital. Since arriving home we've been blessed to have some fine therapists who have encouraged me and worked me to be sure that we move forward to meet my goal of walking again after 24 months.

This week we took a big step along this path. Even though I was able to stand with a walker at my daughter's wedding, I did not expect to achieve any functional movement with the walker for several more months.

Video! Physical Therapy Pays Off at Wedding

When I began taking outpatient physical therapy at Orthopaedic Physical Therapy and Associates in early May 2006, I had many long term goals but one short term concern was more important than any other. While with Phil Camdan on my beginning evaluation, I explained that my daughter was being married on August 5th. I had already accepted the reality that I would not be able to walk down the aisle with her but more than anything else, I wanted to stand on my own to give her away.
